Description
The most popular choices for Amish transportation are “Standardbred” horses that failed to make the cut at racetracks. While their speed is not enough to win purses in competitive racing, these horses, with their well-muscled shoulders and powerful legs, are ideally trained to pull a bulky buggy or wagon, sometimes over long distances. With their calm disposition, they seldom startle at a passing car. Here, I captured a Standardbred and his passenger as the horse approached a very steep hill on a hot and humid summer day, before he reached the top, effortlessly, without breaking stride.
